We drag 50 lb. snail tails
as we pull along the beach.
everything is set to explode
when the word is given.
the children have all been fed,
and sent off to bed.
Even now the heads are starting
to wobble
on the ancient bronze gods
that overlook our origins.
To every dimetron that has
left footprints in my dreams,
I drink to your death
before i say goodnight.
The night is so ancient
the darkness so familiar,
the smell of still silence
and phantom stalkers.
My eyes will not quiet
for even an instant
in the madness of my solitude.
In the dark a man may grab wood
or gold
he knows not where to reach.
Antiquated prophecies
still shriek horrors
in the future tense.
The end is always
right over tomorrow.
No time to solve anything.
cut your losses
and do double-time.
Your grave is getting cold,
see if you can't warm it up a bit.
The archetecture of giant
army ants' interlocking bodies
build nurseries
and protect
the egg laying chamber.
Life can get crazy sad
the fewer people you know
in ratio to your age.
But I'm crazy enough
to fill in the human gaps
with personal chaos.
Riding in the brain case
of a giant frankenstein monster,
tripping over telephone wires,
and stumbling into sky scrapers
while trying to take swipes
at the fighter jets
which attack him like a swarm of hornets.
How am I gonna get out of this mess?
